A Dental Visit During COVID-19

Please bear with us if we can’t book you in as quickly or flexibly as we normally would. Initially, we’ll be prioritising emergencies and patients with the greatest need. 

 

Please do not visit the practice in-person without a pre-arranged appointment.

 

If you’d rather not visit us in practice, we are still providing telephone support and advice, so give us a call and one of our dentists will do their best to help you. 

 

When you do visit us, we ask that you follow the following steps.  Our team will explain everything to you beforehand and on arrival, but please take note these before you attend. We’d like to thank you for your understanding and patience during this unusual time.

 

Before Your Appointment

The practice will contact you before your appointment by telephone.  During this conversation, a medical history form will be taken if needed. You may be asked relevant questions about COVID-19 including symptoms and possible exposure to the virus. We will inform you of key information about your planned appointment. You may be asked for payment at this point.

 

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, please let us know as soon as possible and do not attend your appointment. 

  • A high temperature

  • A new, continuous cough

  • Loss or change to your sense of taste or smell

The Day of Your Appointment

  • Before you leave for the practice please ensure you have been to the toilet and have brushed your teeth. Toilets will not be available at the practice.

  • Please only bring necessary items with you.

  • The front door of the practice will be locked for your own safety.

  • When you arrive please wait outside of the practice, preferably in your car if possible, phone us to let our team know you have arrived. If you arrive early please wait outside or in the car until your appointment time.

  • Please ensure you attend your appointment alone unless you require assistance or are supporting a child or someone vulnerable.

  • Unfortunately, you will not be able to bring your children with you to your appointment.

Entering the Practice

  • On entering the practice one of the team will take your temperature to ensure you do not have a fever and invite you in if your temperature is below 37.3°C. If you are above 37.3°C, we may have to rearrange your appointment.

  • Once within the practice, you will be asked to sanitise your hands.

  • We will request payment before your appointment (if appropriate), by card to enable you to have a swift departure once your treatment has been completed.

  • We would ask our patients to follow social distancing guidelines at all times.

Treatment

  • Upon entering the treatment room our teams will be wearing extra Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in order to provide you with the safest care. You will be asked to place any personal items in a box.

  • Each room as always will have been carefully cleaned and disinfected after each patient.

  • At this stage, you will be asked to carefully swill your mouth with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash for 1 minute.

After Your Appointment

Once your treatment is complete you will be asked to hand sanitise one last time, before we say goodbye.

If you have any questions after the appointment or need further appointments, we will call you to minimize your time in the practice.

If you begin to develop any symptoms of possible COVID-19 following your appointment, you should contact the practice to inform us and follow the appropriate self-isolation advice.

Safety Steps

Protective screensWe have installed perspex screens at the front of our reception desk. This will keep you and our staff safe when you check-in and out.

PPE- We will provide you with a mask to wear on arrival. You will notice enhanced personal protective equipment to ensure everybody's safety.

Enhanced hygieneYou must clean your hands on entry and exit of the practice using an antibacterial gel.

Temperature screening- We check the temperature of patients and staff upon arrival using a non-contact thermometer. If it’s deemed too high, we may reschedule for a later date or send staff members home.

Social distancing- We’ve adjusted our reception area and spaced out appointments – so you can maintain safe social distancing.

Arrival etiquette-  We're limiting the number of people in the practice. To help us maintain this, please ensure you don’t turn up too early or be late. Please come alone, unless absolutely necessary, and only bring essential belongings.

Pre-appointment- All forms will be completed before your appointment via phone call, and we will contact you 24 hours beforehand to ask health-related questions.

More frequent, deeper cleans- We have introduced frequent cleaning rotas for the whole practice – especially in our surgeries. These are scheduled to fit around appointments.

Contactless payment methods- We’ll ask for contactless payment instead of cash wherever possible.

Our main priority when we reopen is to provide our patients with the same high standard of dental care that you have been used to. Every step has been taken to ensure the safety of our patients and team. If you have any questions regarding our service, please do not hesitate to contact us.
